Three Peaks Challenge Whisky Tour
Summit by day. Savour by night.
This is a way of doing the UK Three Peaks Challenge over three days and combining it with visits to whisky distilleries along the way. The point of spreading it out is simple: walking, driving and whisky never overlap.
You climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, then once the day’s walking and travel are finished, you visit a distillery in the same region. Whisky comes at the end of the day, not during it.
Typical pairings people look at are:
- Ben Nevis: Ben Nevis Distillery in Fort William, or Glengoyne Distillery when heading south
- Scafell Pike: The Lakes Distillery in the Lake District
- Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa: Penderyn Distillery in the Brecon Beacons
How you put the days together is up to you. Some people book tastings, some do tours, some just stop at a distillery shop and save the bottles for later. The important thing is that all driving is finished before any alcohol is involved.
This idea only works if you have a dedicated non-drinking driver. If you don’t, you should not attempt to combine driving with distillery visits.
Done properly, this turns the Three Peaks into a three-day journey through mountains and whisky, instead of trying to cram everything into one continuous effort.
