Beginning in 1982, the Snowdonia Marathon follows a route encircling Snowdon, starting at Nant Peris, and finishing in Llanberis. Involving over 1000 runners in 2009, the Snowdonia Marathon is not to be confused with the Snowdon Race, in which participants race to the summit of Snowdon and back, while in the Snowdonia Marathon, participants race on the mountainous roads circling Snowdon.
