Welsh Three Peaks kit checklist
Start from the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge hub, then use this kit checklist for event-day gear requirements.
The kit list below is tailored to our organised Welsh Three Peaks Challenge events. Please see our equipment page for more general guidance for self-organised events.
Please note that mandatory items - unsuitable footwear is our most common kit issue.
Mandatory
- Walking boots (with ankle support, not trail shoes or trainers)
- Headtorch
-
Waterproof jacket and waterproof overtrousers (both with taped seams)
Waterproof taped seams vs non-taped seams
Taped seams stop water ingress. Non-taped seams can leak in sustained rain.
- Hiking socks (wearing a single pair recommended, rather than using a liner sock)
- Backpack (approx. 20-40 litre size)
- Water container (bottle or Camelbak-style, 1-2 litres)
- Gloves
- Hat (covering ears)
Recommended clothing
- Walking trousers or sports leggings (not jeans or tracksuit trousers)
- Sports top (not cotton)
- Warm outer layer
- Changes of clothes
Recommended, optional
- Sunglasses & suncream
- Walking poles
- Light shoes / sandals
- Thermal underwear
- Backpack raincover
- Travel sickness tablets
You're very welcome to bring an overnight bag - please keep it light, and use a small airline carry-on suitcase if possible.
Please don't bring single-use plastics
As part of our ongoing commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of our events, we'll also avoid using single-use products where possible.
