Kit List for Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
The kit list below is applicable to our Private and Guided Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge events.
Please note the mandatory items - unsuitable footwear is our most common kit issue.
Mandatory
- Walking boots (with ankle support, not trail shoes or trainers)
- Headtorch (mandatory for April and October events)
-
Waterproof jacket and waterproof overtrousers (both with taped seams)
Waterproof taped seams vs non-taped seams
Taped seams stop water ingress. Non-taped seams can leak in sustained rain.
Waterproof jacket and waterproof overtrousers are mandatory because they protect you from cold rain and wind chill. They also make a major difference if you need to stop for a period of time because of an injury, such as a sprained ankle or twisted knee, while assistance reaches you.
They do not need to be expensive, but they must have taped seams. For trousers, choose a pair that can be put on over walking boots, usually with zips, Velcro or pop fasteners at the lower leg.
- Hiking socks
- Backpack (approx. 15-20 litre size)
- Water container (bottle or Camelbak-style, 1-2 litres)
- Food & hill snacks (prepared pasta, cereal bars, dried fruit, nuts)
