Coast to Coast Walk
Wainwright's Classic Traverse
The Coast to Coast Walk is arguably Britain's most popular long-distance path, despite never receiving official National Trail status. Alfred Wainwright devised this 192-mile route in 1973, crossing northern England from St Bees Head on the Irish Sea to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea.
The trail traverses three national parks: the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and North York Moors. Each section offers distinct character, from the high fells of Lakeland through the limestone valleys of the Dales to the heather moorlands of North Yorkshire. Thousands of walkers complete this iconic journey each year.
