Travel to the Yorkshire Three Peaks
The Yorkshire Three Peaks area is well connected by road and public transport, with services focused on the villages of Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Ribblehead and Ingleton. Plan your journey in advance and allow extra time for rural connections, particularly when travelling late in the evening.
By road
The start of our open events at Chapel-le-Dale is close to the A65, around 45 minutes from the M6 at Junction 34 (Lancaster) and 60 minutes from the A1(M) at Junction 47 (Knaresborough). Parking is limited in the immediate area, so consider arranging car shares within your group and be mindful of local residents when parking in Horton-in-Ribblesdale and surrounding villages.
By rail
The Settle–Carlisle railway line serves the valley with stations at Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Ribblehead and Settle. Northern operates regular services from Leeds, Skipton and Carlisle, offering a scenic approach to the Dales. Some trains have limited capacity for large rucksacks, so check timetables ahead of your visit and arrive early to secure space.
By air
The nearest major airports are Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) and Manchester Airport (MAN). Leeds Bradford is approximately a 90-minute drive to Horton-in-Ribblesdale, while Manchester Airport is around two hours by car. Both airports connect to rail services via Leeds or Manchester Piccadilly, making it straightforward to continue the journey by train.
Local taxis, public transport, buses
Local bus routes link Settle, Ingleton, Skipton and Kirkby Lonsdale, though services can be infrequent outside peak season. For transfers, a number of taxi operators serve Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Ingleton and surrounding villages; book these in advance to ensure availability, especially for early morning pick-ups.
