Ribble Way
Following Yorkshire's Great River
The Ribble Way traces the course of the River Ribble for 72 miles from its source high in the Yorkshire Dales to the Irish Sea at Longton near Preston. This varied route offers a gentler alternative to the high fell walks, following riverside paths through limestone valleys and pastoral farmland.
Beginning beneath the towering slopes of Pen-y-ghent, the trail descends through classic Dales scenery past Settle and Clitheroe before reaching the Lancashire coast. The route showcases the changing character of northern England, from upland sheep farms to rich agricultural lowlands and estuarine marshes.
