Equipment for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
We recommend carrying the kit below on a self-organised Yorkshire challenge. On an organised event, some of this, such as safety blankets and shelters, will be carried by your mountain guides.
To carry in your backpack
- Water (two litres)
- Yorkshire Three Peaks map
-
Compass
- Headtorch
- Waterproofs (with taped seams)
- Spare socks
- Sunglasses & suncream
- Gloves
- Hat
Choosing waterproofs
Look for a waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams. You should be able to see fine taping over stitched areas inside the garment; this helps stop water getting through in sustained rain.
Waterproof trousers should be easy to put on over boots. Side zips, Velcro or pop fasteners make this much easier during the walk. Better jackets often have extra protection around the main zip and zipped pockets, but taped seams are the key requirement.
Safety equipment
We recommend carrying one of each of these amongst your group.
- Emergency shelter
- Safety blanket
- First aid kit
Optional equipment
- Walking poles
- GPS
Kit worn
- Walking boots
- Sports top and bottoms
- Lightweight walking trousers
- Sports-type top (not cotton)
- Fleece / sports-type hoodle
