Challenge options for charity events
This page is for charity organisers comparing event formats. Use it to match challenge difficulty and logistics to your supporter group before you choose a booking route.
Yorkshire Three Peaks
24 miles in one continuous loop: Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. No driving between peaks. Usually 10-12 hours. Logistics are simpler for large groups because everyone starts and finishes at the same point.
Best for: larger supporter groups. The single-loop format handles 200 people without transport coordination. Yorkshire charity fundraising event.
National Three Peaks
Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon across Scotland, England and Wales. Around 10 hours of walking plus 10 hours of driving. This is the most demanding option for both fitness and logistics.
Best for: flagship campaigns where the name recognition drives sponsorship. National charity fundraising event.
Welsh Three Peaks
Less intense than the National, a great team adventure. Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan. Drive times between peaks are 1-2 hours rather than 5+ on the National. Fits a weekend: travel late Friday, walk Saturday, home Sunday.
Best for: supporters who want a weekend challenge without taking time off work. Welsh charity fundraising event.
Three Peaks in Three Days
The same three National peaks spread across three days with accommodation between. Gives supporters more recovery time and suits campaigns that need a slower pace.
Best for: leadership groups, ambassadors and supporters who want a calmer pace. Three Peaks in Three Days charity fundraising event.
Group size guide
- Less than 8: guided dates across National, Yorkshire, Welsh and Surrey challenges are all suitable for small groups, with no minimum group size.
- 8-60: guided dates are usually simplest. For private dates, National and Welsh can work from 8+, while Yorkshire private is usually from around 30.
- 30-200: Yorkshire is usually simplest for private dates. National or Welsh also work but need more transport planning.
