Three Peaks Challenge from Manchester

Planning your Three Peaks Challenge from Manchester? Your central location offers excellent access whether joining a guided event or organising your own.

Key Distances from Manchester

  • Manchester → Fort William: 280 miles / 5-6 hours
  • Fort William → Snowdon (via Scafell Pike): 470 miles / 10-11 hours
  • Snowdon → Manchester: 85 miles / 1.5 hours

Joining a Guided Challenge

On our guided events, you make your own way to Fort William where the challenge begins. We provide all transport between mountains and finish in North Wales with a transfer to Chester station.

Getting to Fort William

By Train

Travel via Glasgow with a change onto the West Highland Line:

  • Manchester Piccadilly → Glasgow Central: ~3.5 hours
  • Glasgow Queen Street → Fort William: ~4 hours
  • Total journey: ~7.5 hours with connection

By Air

Fly from Manchester Airport to Glasgow or Edinburgh:

  • Manchester → Glasgow: 1 hour flight
  • Glasgow Airport → Fort William: 100 miles / 2.5 hours

Getting Home from Chester

Our guided events finish with a transfer to Chester station – just 1 hour by train back to Manchester.

Self-Organised Challenge

Organising your own Three Peaks with a minibus and drivers? Manchester's central position means reasonable driving to Fort William and a short return from Snowdon.

Total Driving

  • Manchester → Fort William: 280 miles / 5-6 hours
  • Challenge route: 470 miles / 10-11 hours (between climbs)
  • Snowdon → Manchester: 85 miles / 1.5-2 hours
  • Total round trip: ~835 miles

Route to Fort William

  1. M60 / M61 to join M6 northbound
  2. M6 North through Lancaster, Carlisle
  3. A74(M) / M74 to Glasgow
  4. A82 along Loch Lomond to Fort William
