Great Glen Way
Following Scotland's Famous Fault Line
The Great Glen Way traces the geological fault that splits Scotland in two, running 79 miles from Fort William to Inverness. This well-established trail follows the shores of Loch Lochy, Loch Oich, and the legendary Loch Ness through a glacially carved valley of striking proportions.
The route combines towpath walking along the Caledonian Canal with forest trails and lochside paths, offering relatively gentle terrain with constant mountain views. The Great Glen Way provides an excellent introduction to Highland walking, with good facilities throughout and the option to combine hiking with cycling or canoeing sections.
