John Muir Way

John Muir Way

Coast to Coast Across Central Scotland

The John Muir Way crosses Scotland from Helensburgh on the Firth of Clyde to Dunbar on the North Sea coast, covering 134 miles through the Central Belt. Named after the Dunbar-born founder of America's national parks, this route celebrates Scotland's natural and cultural heritage.

The trail passes through varied landscapes including the Forth and Clyde Canal, historic towns like Linlithgow and Falkirk, and the volcanic hills of East Lothian. While less mountainous than Highland routes, the John Muir Way offers accessible walking with excellent transport links and a fascinating journey through Scotland's industrial and agricultural heartland.
