How to choose a charity event
Choose the challenge you can train for and complete safely, then pick a date that fits your calendar.

Start with your training baseline
If your current longest walk is around 10 miles, the National format is a major jump because it combines three mountains with overnight transfers.
Yorkshire is still demanding but simpler logistically: one 24-mile loop and no overnight mountain-to-mountain driving.
Challenge comparison
- Yorkshire: 24 miles, one loop, usually 10-12 hours walking, no peak-to-peak driving.
- National: Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Snowdon, roughly 10 hours walking plus around 10 hours driving in 24 hours.
- Welsh: Snowdon, Cadair Idris, Pen y Fan with shorter transfers and a weekend-friendly schedule.
How to decide
Ask yourself three questions:
- Can I train for this in time? Allow 8-10 weeks for most people.
- Can I explain it clearly to donors? Simpler event descriptions usually support clearer fundraising asks.
- Do the dates work? Check Charity Challenges for available places and timing.
Choose the challenge you can complete confidently and fundraise around.
