Everything you need to organise your own attempt at one of Britain's great walking challenges.
Whether you're tackling the National Three Peaks in 24 hours, walking the Yorkshire circuit with friends, or exploring the Welsh mountains at your own pace — we've got routes, maps, timing guidance and practical advice to help you plan a safe and successful challenge.
Our guided challenges include professional leaders, transport and full support.
View Guided EventsPrepare properly for your challenge with structured training advice, whatever your current fitness level.
Optional registration provides certificates, safety guidance and fundraising support. £6 per person.
The National and Welsh challenges require dedicated drivers who won't be walking. After climbing mountains, your team will be too exhausted to drive safely. This is non-negotiable.
If you can't recruit dedicated drivers, consider a guided event where transport is provided.
We recommend groups of 4-30 people. Smaller groups are harder to support safely; larger groups become unwieldy on the hills and at car parks.
If you have fewer than four people, our open events let you join other individuals and small groups.
May to September offers the best conditions for all challenges. Longer daylight hours and generally better weather make planning easier and the experience more enjoyable.
Winter attempts on the mountain challenges require specialist skills and equipment.
Be prepared to abandon your challenge if conditions deteriorate. Check weather forecasts from the Met Office mountain weather service before setting out.
If your group lacks navigation experience in poor visibility, consider hiring a mountain leader or joining a guided event.
Compare the challenges by difficulty, distance, logistics and cost to find the right one for your group.
