Wasdale Head is a popular destination and the car park fills quickly during:
Three Peaks Challenge participants typically arrive late at night or in the early hours when parking is usually available. For daytime climbs during peak season, arriving before 8am is advisable.
If the main car parks are full, limited alternatives exist:
The Wasdale valley is remote and parking options are genuinely limited. Planning ahead and arriving early (or late at night for Three Peaks) is essential.
Wasdale Head is not served by public transport. The nearest railway station is Seascale (approximately 10 miles away), but there are no connecting bus services. A car or minibus is effectively essential for reaching the start of the Scafell Pike route.
For the Seathwaite route, Keswick is the nearest town with bus connections. The Borrowdale Rambler bus (78) runs from Keswick to Seatoller, from where it is a 1.5-mile walk to Seathwaite Farm.
For National Three Peaks Challenge participants:
Scafell Pike is typically the second peak, reached via the M6 and A595/A5092.
