Description
Our Guided Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge events are guided walks, with mountain leaders to guide you around the route, and a support vehicle to provide water top-ups and a safety backup.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is a 24 mile (38.6km) route, with 1585m of ascent. The challenge is to complete the circuit in under 12 hours.
The route summits the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales: Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.
We start from Chapel le Dale, which is a quiet start point with free parking. We walk in a clockwise direction, summiting Ingleborough first, then Whernside, and finally Pen-y-Ghent.
Our Guided Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge events are suitable for individuals and groups of all sizes. We run these events throughout the year, and they're a great way to take on the challenge with the security of walking with experienced mountain leaders.
Before we start
Please arrive at 5.30am so you have time to park, put your boots and kit on, find your group and check in. If you are walking with friends, please check in together no later than 6.00am.
After check-in there is a short safety briefing and kit check. We normally start the challenge between 6.00am and 6.15am.
Late arrivals can delay the whole group and reduce the time available for the challenge, so please allow extra time for traffic, parking and getting ready.

Pace, checkpoints and route decisions
Our guides monitor progress at points throughout the day and will advise if your pace is becoming a concern. Most people find the pace achievable, but the Yorkshire Three Peaks is still a long mountain day and the route needs to be managed safely.
If you are heading towards a 13-hour-plus day, it may not be suitable to continue to the final summit. If you have not reached the final checkpoint before 3.00pm, our guides may direct you onto a lower route for the last section.
This keeps the group within reach of the safety vehicle and avoids placing tired participants onto a remote summit late in the day. Lower routes may also be used in poor weather, including high winds and heavy rain.
